Getting your photos in the USB Flash Drive.
To participate in the DV 2013 visa lottery program photos which are to be uploaded along with your application forms should be in digital file format. You can take these photos at a photo studio where they will issue your photos in digital file format. You can get them transferred in a CD or USB Flash Drive. Although the usb flash drive is commonly used by everyone, there are many chances to get virus through it from other people's computers. These viruses can damage your personal computer or laptop once you connect the USB flash drive to them.So it is advisable not to get digital photo files through the USB flash drive if you don't have good virus program installed in your PC to safe guard against viruses coming from the USB flash drive.
If virus affects your USB flash drive not only your USB pen drive get affected also you may not able to get your digital photos from it. You have to take the digital photos again in the studio.
How to transfer the digital photo files from studio?
Ask the studio people to make the photo to the required size and give a file name for it.
- Let them write it in a CD (Burn) and get it.
- Let them send the digital photo files to your given e-mail address as attachment.
Take note that 10 MB files can be normally sent as attachments in the emails.
If you have more than 10 MB send them in more mails. So when you are getting the email attachments, you can scan them for any viruses before downloading them to your computer. - Give them your USB Flash Drive and ask them to transfer the image file to your flash drive.
You can directly plug in the USB flash drive in the usb port of your PC or laptop.
Go to your "my computer" there you can see the drive as a removable one or with its name.
Open the drive copy the image file and paste it where you like. After every thing finished, first stop the running usb flash drive program.
When it is safe, remove the USB flash drive.
When applying from your PC you can show the stored file in the DV lottery application forms' browse section.
