To be a winner in the dv lottery program, you must provide a good quality color photo in the form of digital image file. If you were not selected for the program you may not know whether you were not lucky to selected for the program or you were selected and because of your photo file you lost your wining chance. So try to provide a good photo taken recently by a professional photographer in a modern studio. It is very rare to make photos in home to meet the dv lottery requirements. So don't forget your luck and the photo are the big thing for the visa lottery program to make your dream to come true.
Here are some facts from the dv instructions.

The way a person must appear in the photo.

Photos must be in good focus.
Head position of the person when photographed must directly face the camera.
Person's head should not be tilted up, down, or to the sides.
Person's head should cover about 50% of the area of the photo.

Background of the Person when photographed must be in front of a neutral, light-colored background.
Back round with dark or patterns will not be accepted.
The person when photographed must not wear objects like sunglasses or any other decorative items that can detract from the face can't be accepted.

Persons are accepted to be photographed with wearing head covering or hats for religious beliefs. But it can't obscure any portion of the persons face.

Taking photos with tribal or headgear that is not specifically religious in nature is NOT allowed.
Taking photos with military, airline or with personal wearing Hats and caps are not accepted.

You can make digital photo files in two ways for to submit along with your application for the visa lottery program.
01. The image file can be produced by taking a new digital photograph.
02. A photographic print can be scanned with a digital scanner.
