PAPER PHOTO

Paper photos used to be made through two chemical processing. First the image is captured as light and on a negative paper and in the second chemical process it was made as a paper photo. Modern day studios capture the images in digital file format and then make the paper photo through the chemical processing or desktop printing.

Paper photos mean those images that are coming on a special photo print out paper. The images were usually captured by cameras on a negative film rolls. After the film rolls were chemically processed then the negative will be used to make prints on the photo paper using the same camera technique. These days most of the developed countries are using the digital photo technique. But due to visa processing purpose of many countries, identification cards and wedding story
book production these paper photos are still surviving.

In most of the Africa region still people are using to capture their images in photo papers for most of the official identification purposes.

Mean while DV 2013 visa application form requests each applicant and his/her eligible dependant's digital photo file to be uploaded when the application form is being submitted. Without these digital photo files the E-DV entry form will not be accepted by the program. According to the U.S State Department's instruction it is not necessary for each eligible applicants to take digital photos to participate in the program instead they can submit digital photo file made from a paper photo too. It is clearly mentioned that the photo must be a recently taken one, means it should be taken within 6 months of the date of submission. The photo must be a color photo taken with a neutral background with good focus on the person. No sun glass or caps are allowed to be worn by the applicant unless for the religious requirement.

If a person is not married then he will need only his paper photo to be scanned and submitted.
If the person is married then must include a separate photo of his/her spouse too.
If have eligible children for the diversity program, then they too will be required to submit one individual photo of each of them.

Scanning paper photographs with a scanner to make the digital file to upload with the entry form is a simple process.

If the photographic print meets the print color and compositional specifications, scan the print using the following

scanner specifications:
Scanner Resolution: Scanned at a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi).
Image File Format: The image must be in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format.
Image File Size: The maximum image file size is 240 kilobytes (240 KB).
Image Resolution: 600 by 600 pixels.
Image Color Depth: 24-bit color.
Note that the black and white, monochrome, or grayscale images will not be accepted for the DV program.
The scanned images can be saved in the computers or can be written in CD or transferred in to a USB flash drive for to
apply with the online dv lottery entry form.
Before to start the photo scanning process, check whether scanner lock switch is off.
Don't try to make a small photo in to become as a big one by scanning. The result will be a low quality photo image.
Use the selection tool to select the photo to be scanned.
It is better to scan a 2" x 2" photo to get good quality photo image for the visa lottery program.
